Everyone,
I heard back from Beth Stephens, Health Access Program Director at Georgia Watch in regards to their recent funded report on APRNs in Georgia.
They are collecting feedback on this publication. Your comments will only assist in changing our present climate in Georgia.
The link for the full report is HERE
I have also included it as an attachment. Please use this as a tool for your new year's approach of when you contact your state legislative to discuss how APRNs in Georgia need to practice to our fullest scope of practice and please send me a note when you do make contact with your representative.
Thanks.
Dr. James F. Lawrence
State UAPRN President

As a newly transferred FNP from NY to Georgia, I took the opportunity to reach out to Georgia representatives re: the current state of APRN's scope of practice in Georgia. All return responses were that they were in full support of APRN's but there is currently no legislation referencing broadening the scope of APRN's in Georgia.

I just completed reading the Perspectives on APRNs in Georgia. A couple of comments/suggestions on this much needed push for change.
1. Putting the GBN as the oversight board for APRNs - GCMB has an inherent conflict of interest in the management of APRNs.
2. The requirement placed on rural patients to receive care is economic burden that most cannot afford.
3. Like it or not - I think references to the ACA is like shooting yourself in the foot. I would avoid it our legislators are probably not big fans.
Also, you have an uphill battle with Rep. Sharon Cooper, RN!
Representative Cooper is without a doubt the most powerful female politician in our state. Past efforts on winning her support have failed. Does anyone have any suggestions to a different approach?
James
James, new approach? Have a strong candidate to oppose her in the next election cycle. Support in words/campaigning and dollars.
