POST CROSSOVER DAY CALL TO ACTION
It is now time to begin our work on the House HHS committee to advocate for them them to schedule the Nursing Bills (SB 334, SB351 and SB 434) for hearing in the committee.
Attached is a list of the House HHS members and have noted which ones are physicians, etc. Please let me know if you are in HD 43 (east Cobb) or HD 178 (Blackshear / Waycross) or if you know nursing colleagues in these districts.
PLEASE SEND LOTS OF EMAILS AND CALL ALL MEMBERS OF HOUSE HHS, but DO NOT CALL from call/email the Committee Chair Sharon Cooper unless YOU LIVE/WORK in her district. If you live in her district contact me.
Talking points are listed below to include in your emails. It is also beneficial to call their office and speak with their legislative aid making your request. If you live in the district for one of the members, it is crucial that you make that known to them up front.
Talking Points:
SB 334: In order for the BON to execute its duty to protect the public by moving the board out from under the Secretary of State's office and providing oversight via DCH.
SB 351: GA is the ONLY state that restricts APRNs from ordering radiology testing; Increasing the number of APRNs that a MD can supervise is critical to increasing the healthcare workforce in rural areas.
SB 434: Because of the vital role of nursing in healthcare, the state needs state wide workforce data; incorporating into this board allows all healthcare worker data to be in one central location in GA.
Mock Email:
Dear Representative XXXX:
I am a nurse living in your district / I am a nurse working in your district OR
I am a nurse and am writing you today as a member of the House Health and Human Services Committee. As you are aware, there are 3 bills related to nursing that currently reside in your committee. I am requesting that you request that the chair of the committee schedule these bills for a committee hearing. These bills are:
SB 334, know and the Board of Nursing bill, which will allow the board to more fully execute its duty to protect the public by moving the board out from under the Secretary of State's office and providing oversight via DCH.
SB 351, known as the APRN bill, which will improve healthcare access across the state by allowing a physician to supervise up to 8 APRNs (thereby increasing the number of providers in rural communities) and by eliminating patient care wait times and inefficiencies in the ordering or radiologic testing. GA is the ONLY state that restricts APRNs from ordering radiology testing.
SB 434 will include nursing workforce data as part of the scope of the Georgia Physician Workforce Board. Because of the vital role of nursing in healthcare, the state needs state wide workforce data; incorporating into this board allows all healthcare worker data to be in one central location in GA.
I realize this is an election year and I appreciate your time and attention to these bills that are important to nursing. Thanks you for your support!
Sincerely,
XXXX name, credentials, other data you wish to share.
