Legislative Action Alert and Request for Action—SB 94 passes out of Committee

SB 94 received a unanimous “Do Pass” recommendation from the Senate Health and Human Services Committee today, February 20 (and coincidentally, day 20 of the 40 day legislative session). Thank you to all who contacted members of the committee. Calls and letters received from APRN’s had a significant impact in achieving this result. The bill will now be transmitted to the Rules Committee who will then decide when to place it on the calendar for a full Senate vote. Stay tuned for news about the date the bill will be voted on by the full Senate.

Request for your action: All 56 state Senators now need to hear from their local APRN’s.

  • The ask: Contact your Senator and ask them to “Please vote “yes” for SB 94”. Use this phrase as the subject for e-mails. A sample letter, talking points, and the full Senate Contact List are attached to this message for your convenience. The Senators home district location is also listed to assist you in identifying the Senator that serves your community. Please contact them beginning immediately as the bill could come to the floor any time over the next 10 days
  • Remember that just a few contacts from constituents about an issue are very powerful!
  • Please report to Laura Searcy (contact information below) about any replies you receive from Senators.

Attitudes at the Capitol are changing as the state grapples with a severe health care provider shortage, budget deficits, and poor health outcomes. It is becoming clear that Georgia needs to utilize APRN’s more fully in order to meet the health care needs of its citizens. Now more than ever a few minutes investment of time on behalf of your patients and your profession can really make a difference. With your help we have an excellent chance of passing this legislation. Without your help, chances lessen. Let’s all work together to achieve success!

We thank our partners who are actively supporting and assisting efforts to pass SB 94. They are:

  • Children’s Heathcare of Atlanta
  • Community Hospital Alliance,
  • Emory HealthCare/Emory University
  • Georgia Hospital Association
  • Georgia Nurses Association
  • Georgia Rural Health Association
  • Georgia Watch ( a consumer advocacy organization)
  • HomeTown Health (small hospital alliance)
