PTIP Update: PTIP HB 301 is Amended to SB 180 Stay tuned for CALL TO ACTION (#2 ACTION Item)

Posted over 8 years ago by Molly Bachtel

HB 301 is now amended to SB 180

In House Ways and Means Committee this afternoon, Representative Trey Kelley (Cedartown) offered a substitute to SB 180 to amend it to include HB 301 (the PTIP bill).  SB 180 is sponsored by Senator Dean Burke, who accepted the substitute.  The House committee voted to approve SB 180 as amended.

Next steps:

1.      Senator Burke will be going to the Rules committee in the House tomorrow morning to request the bill be added to the House floor calendar.

2.      Once the bill is through Rules, it will go to the House floor where it should pass without issue.

3.      Once the bill is passed out of the House, it returns to the Senate where the Senators can vote to accept the changes OR to reject the changes.  If they choose the latter it goes to conference committee.  We want the Senate to ACCEPT.

Action Items:

1.      Right now, the bill sponsors believe that they have the full support in the  House and do not ask for any action from us at this time.  If we are not successful in House Rules tomorrow, this may change.

2.      When the bill is ready to pass the house, we will need a full court press to ALL Senators asking them to support the House position on SB 180 and explaining why the substitute is so critically important.

3.      We will be reaching out to all stakeholders when this needs to occur- timing is everything so we will need swift responses from all of you when the call goes out.

Keep your toes and fingers crossed – we are so close!

Thanks!
