As the madness continues the attack on APRN practice is becoming more destructive. I have attached contact information for all of the legislatures in Georgia. It is our individual responsibility as providers to make sure that we speak up and let them know that these new changes have no merit, and it is ultimately hurting the citizens of Georgia.

I agree Dr. Ray!!! The APRN for the day program also makes us more visible to the legislators.
I see they want to introduce fingerprinting and background checks for renewal of license, wonder if they will require a night in jail as well??.
Why fingerprinting and background check?
Are there any other new restrictions? I'm ready for us to start moving forward toward the concensus model. I'm in rural Georgia and with my DO out alot I can't rx meds for ADHD or treat my pts with cancer pain. I'm a native Georgian but I'm so restricted I can't practice efficiency or effectively. It impacts my pts. It seems like we're moving backwards.
NOW is the time to UNITE so we can move our profession forward with positive changes. Together we can do this!
Please contact your Representative. or Senator today. We need to be included in SB 115. An explanation re finger printing and back ground check would be nice.
Fingerprinting and background checks actually puts us in line with other providers including physicians and dentists. It hold us to the same standards of these other professionals. If we ever want full practice authority this is not an issue we want to fight. There are no new restrictions to practice. Please do not feel we are under attack. These are necessary steps to modernize our nurse practice act. As for SB 115 that ship has sailed and will progress without us. I agree it would have been nice to be included, however we will regroup and plan for the future.
Respectfully, not a single physician I have discussed this with has ever had their fingerprints taken or a background check in order to renew their practice license. It is a huge concern that anyone on capital hill whose purpose is to protect our rights as APRN's actually believe this would benefit NP's in any way. "IF WE WANT FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WE WANT TO FIGHT"...??? What does questioning the validity of this bizarre requirement have to do with our right to practice independently? Are you suggesting that in order to possibly be allowed to do what we have trained to do, we need to be quiet and not question anything? Please do clarify. I am very curious how not a single MD I have spoken with has ever done this; so how is it considered "the same standards of these other professionals".
This is actually in response to the numerous APRN imposters in Georgia. Not sure if you read the article or not but it was in the Georgia Nurse magazine in the last issue.
If the current imposters have managed to bypass the education, certification, and licensure requirements to be an APRN and are still practicing as APRN's...How will having real licensed APRN's (who have proof of their education & certification in order to obtain licensure) complete fingerprints and background checks every time they renew their license stop an imposter?
