APRNs & Guardianship Evaluations: Required Training Under New Georgia Law

Due to recently passed legislation, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Georgia are now authorized to complete evaluations for guardianship appointments. To support APRNs in meeting this new legal responsibility, United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Georgia (UAPRN) has partnered with the Cobb County Probate Court to offer a required virtual training on the guardianship evaluation process.

This training will be led by Judge Kelly Wolk and Judge Kristen Poland, who will walk participants through the legal, clinical, and documentation requirements for completing guardianship evaluations in compliance with state law.

There is a critical and immediate need for trained APRNs—particularly in rural and underserved communities—to ensure timely access to guardianship evaluations. Judges and probate courts across Georgia are requesting that as many APRNs as possible complete this training to help meet growing demand.

Important Notes:

  • This training is required by law for APRNs who wish to complete guardianship evaluations

  • APRNs will be compensated for conducting evaluations, with payment determined by the county probate court where the evaluation is completed

  • The training will be held virtually, allowing APRNs across the state to participate

This session equips APRNs with the knowledge and confidence needed to expand their scope of service, support vulnerable populations, and play a vital role in Georgia’s guardianship process.
