What is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse?
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), are Registered Nurses with advanced education, knowledge, skills, and scope of practice. Individuals are licensed as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in the categories of Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse-Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric/Mental Health.
What is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)?
- NPs are advanced practice registered nurses who provide high-quality healthcare services. NPs diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems. They have a unique approach to treating illness and health concerns as well as promoting wellness. NP’s provide knowledgeable treatment to their patients while also focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling. They help patients make wise health and lifestyle choices. They are truly your Partners in Health. Nurse Practitioners are nationally certified in their specialty by the American Nurses Association, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and are authorized to practice by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
What is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)?
- A Nurse Midwife is an advanced practice registered nurse with additional training in the care of women and infants. Nurse Midwives address health care issues that are specific to women of all ages and are specially trained to provide care during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and care of the newborn. They are nationally certified by the American Certified Nurse Midwife Certification Council and authorized to practice by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
What is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)?
- A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides anesthesia services and related care to their patients. They provide pre-op care, education and evaluation, anesthesia during surgical procedures, and postanesthesia care. They are nationally certified by the Council on Certification/Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists and are authorized to practice by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
What is a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric/Mental Health (CNS, PMH)?
- A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS, PMH) is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides a full range of nursing services from mental health promotion to mental illness rehabilitation. They provide psychotherapy, clinical supervision, consultation and liaison services to their patients. Clinical Nurse Specialists are nationally certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and authorized to practice by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
